Resources for and from African American Congregations

Methodology

The initial impetus for the report was an acknowledgement by the Congregational Resource Guide research team of a need to increase CRG listings that are of special interest to African American congregations. The team recognized the value that such a compilation would hold for local congregations.

With this objective, members of the team attended the 87th Annual Hampton University Ministers’ Conference, held together with the 67th Annual Choir Directors’ and Organists’ Guild Workshop. In addition, an invaluable piece of the research process was a luncheon with African American ministers in Indianapolis. Several of the issues raised by these ministers led to the inclusion of new categories in the report.

This current update has been guided by the initial conversations with congregational leaders and extended through library and online research. Over 100 new items have been added to the Guide to assist churches in equipping persons for ministry and service. We hope it will be of use to you, those whom you serve, and those who serve with you.
