The Renewal Movement includes those who would move toward making it a fifth branch of American Judaism and those who believe its strength lies precisely in staying on the outside, as a prodding force. That tension will not resolve itself quickly. Nevertheless, Renewal organizations are doing exciting work across the North American Jewish landscape. Also of note is Tikkun Magazine (see Journals), which is closely identified with Renewal.
Aleph: Alliance for Jewish Renewal
Aleph catalyzes, supports, and strengthens the Jewish Renewal Movement. It organizes and nurtures communities, develops leadership, creates new liturgy and other resources, and works for social and environmental justice. The Network of Jewish Renewal Communities is an affiliate organization.
Elat Chayyim
Elat Chayyim is a Renewal retreat and program center, where rabbis, Jewish scholars, and artists of all denominations facilitate weekend, weeklong, and holiday retreats. Located in the Catskill Mountains of New York and open year-round, this Kosher facility welcomes people of all levels of Jewish education to come and experience the spirituality in Judaism.
National Havurah Committee
Located in Philadelphia, this diverse network of Jewish individuals and havurah communities is dedicated to Jewish learning and renewal, community building, and tikkun olam (repairing the world; social action). Each summer, the NHC sponsors family and singles-friendly retreats devoted to these goals.
Network of Jewish Renewal Communities
The projects and services of the NJRC are designed either to connect Renewal communities to each other, so that they can efficiently share resources and information, or to help connect interested newcomers to a Jewish Renewal community or program in their area.
