Lectio Divina is an alternative biblical reflection model. Here are the group directions for this method:
- The scripture passage is read three times. The leader should invite different group members to read each time.
- Responses to the following questions are formed first in quiet, then shared in the group. Participants do not question or comment on what others say. After each person speaks, there is silence until the next person is ready to speak.
- Be sure all participants have an opportunity to speak if they wish to.
Questions for lectio divina:
- What captures your attention? The passage is read aloud by someone in the group. Participants are invited to notice any particular detail, image, sensation, word or phrase that stands out for them.
- What themes connect with you and your world today? The passage is read aloud by another person. Participants are invited to consider any themes or voices in the passage which connect with concerns in their life and world.
- What are you being invited to do or be at this time? The passage is read aloud a third time, during which participants are invited to listen to the Spirit.
- It is not necessary to share these final responses, but some may wish to speak. The leader simply thanks participants without comment, and closes with a prayer.
