From Barriers to Bridges: A Community Action Guide for Congregations and People With Disabilities (Book)
Ginny Thornburgh, Janet Miller Rife, Authors.  Ginny Thornburgh, Editor.  Washington, DC: National Organization on Disability, 1996.

Building on the principles and practices expressed in the handbook, That All May Worship, this guide asserts not only that people with disabilities be welcomed in places of worship, but also that they be full participants in worship, fellowship, and programs. It provides guidance on organizing and delivering a conference based on That All May Worship and describes eight pioneer conferences.

Elements of successful conferences include keynote speakers, interfaith panels, workshops, and the use of ceremony, music, humor, drama, and challenge. The book’s appendices feature songs, readings, and prayers for a conference, as well as a list of faith group resources. Judicatories and denominational groups committed to raising the disability awareness of their congregations will find inspiration and practical ideas in these pages.

Available from Ginny Thorburgh, Director, Interfaith Initiative, at the American Association of People with Disabilities.
