The Facilitator's Fieldbook: Step-by-Step Procedures, Checklists and Guidelines, Samples and Templates (Book)
Thomas Justice, David Jamieson, Authors.  New York, NY: AMACOM Books, 1999.

Almost every active lay and clergy member of a congregation has been called upon to develop and facilitate meetings (sometimes, it seems, to excess). Laboring under all that experience, one wonders what one more book might offer. Thomas Justice and David Jamieson have provided an exceptionally thorough set of step-by-step procedures and guidelines for facilitating meetings.

In their introduction, the authors guide us through the elements of adult learning, group dynamics, and process. Taking nothing for granted, Justice and Jamieson detail nearly every common consideration in meeting preparation (tips for agendas and meeting space), the meeting proper (training the group recorder and "On Becoming Marker Worthy!"), and the meeting follow up ("Meeting Record: the Reduced Flip Chart Page" and "Responsibility Charting"—an often-overlooked step in preparing records and recommendations).

The authors have prepared a paperback catalog that would be invaluable resource in any church or synagogue library or on the shelf of anyone called upon to regularly prepare and lead meetings. Their careful dedication to voluminous detail gives the reader the chance to review and select elements of preparation that might be overlooked, even by the experienced leader.
