Study/Reflect
Part 1 — Your congregation's narrative spending plan

Using the model provided in the narrative spending plan workshop, and your congregation's statement of purpose, write out a narrative spending plan for your congregation. Some mission or vision statements do not naturally break down as in the example. If this is the case for you, or if your congregation does not have such a statement, the model provides a generic statement most congregations would find acceptable.

Possible additional steps:

  1. If your mission statement does not conform itself well to a narrative spending plan, you might wish to spend time revamping it with key leaders from your congregation.
  2. You might also benefit from completing part one above with the finance committee, treasurer, trustees, or other leaders in your congregation. Discuss the long-term merits for your congregation.
