Farewell from the Congregational Resource Guide
The Alban Institute and the Indianapolis Center for Congregations announce that the Congregational Resource Guide (CRG) website, as we knew it, is now inactive.
Both organizations are already working on new resource options for congregations. The Alban Institute is mining archived material from the CRG so that the material can continue to help congregations. The Indianapolis Center for Congregations is reinventing the CRG to reflect the Center’s distinctive way of resourcing congregations.
The CRG was created in 2000 as a joint project of Alban and the Center for Congregations, with funding from Lilly Endowment Inc. Its mission was to sift through the many thousands of resources—books, organizations, websites, articles, etc.—addressed to congregations and their leaders, identify the most useful, organize them, and describe how they could be used in a congregational setting.
That mission led to the creation of a website that linked to more than 2,000 excellent resources. The CRG also extended its reach through an e-newsletter that offered reflections on congregational life and leadership and a question-and-answer column. In addition, it hosted blog conversations on various topics and podcast interviews with notable leaders.
We are grateful for the efforts of the staff who oversaw the CRG’s development over the last dozen years, including Richard Bass, Martin Davis, Ian Evison, Claudia Greer, Megan DeWald Kline, and Anne Van Dusen from Alban; and Brent Bill, Nancy DeMott, Tim Shapiro, and Aaron Spiegel from the Center for Congregations. We are also grateful for the many congregational leaders whose reflections, insights, and advice helped to shape the CRG.
